John is a retail leasing specialist with over 28 years of experience in shopping center leasing, development, redevelopment and investment analysis. He  was most recently the President of Berkshire Retail Leasing, a developer of power and lifestyle centers. Prior to Berkshire, he was an independent consultant providing leasing services for such firms as JP Morgan, Cigna, The Jacobs Group, General Growth Properties and Starmount Company. Mr. Phelan was formerly the Executive Vice President of leasing for New England Development, a premier shopping center development and management company whose holdings encompassed 40 major retail properties nationwide.  Earlier, he worked in a similar capacity for The O’Connor Group, specializing in the acquisition and redevelopment of premium regional malls across the country. He is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers and has chaired the ICSC Certified Leasing Specialist Committee, served as instructor in the Advanced Leasing Institute and was the editor of the ICSC’s leasing handbook. Mr. Phelan is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross and the NYU Real Estate program.
